Intense Pulsed Light Treatment
Pre-treatment & Post-treatment Instructions
Precautions Before and After Laser Treatment
- Avoid sun exposure for 1 month before each treatment.
- A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher should be applied daily and whenever exposed to the sun.
Expectations Following Treatment
- Immediately following treatment, the area may show a slight redness with some swelling or sensation of warmth. Treated pigmented lesions may crust or scab. Blistering may rarely occur.
General Skin Care
- Gently cleanse your skin (do not scrub) and apply a mild moisturizer after treatment.
- Makeup may be applied gently to the treated area the day after treatment.
- If a crust or scab develops, do not pick or scratch. It will slough off naturally over 2-3 weeks. Instead, apply a thin layer of Aquaphor to any blistered area several times a day to keep the area moist. Do not scrub the area. Pat the area dry. Do not shave over the area if swelling, crusting or scabbing is present.
- Avoid contact sports or any other activity that could cause bruising of the treated area.
- Avoid sun exposure between treatments. If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a SPF 30+ sunblock to cover exposed, treated areas.
- In case of signs of infection (pus, tenderness, fever), contact the office immediately.
- Post-treatment skin care instructions must be followed to prevent any complications.
