Pigmented Lesions
Pre-treatment & Post-treatment Instructions
Precautions Before and After Laser Treatment
Avoid sun exposure for at least four weeks prior, during and at least one week after final treatment. A broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater should be generously and frequently applied to the treated areas at all times. Avoid prolonged sun exposure for a minimum of three weeks following treatment.
Expectations Following Treatment
Immediately following treatment, the area may show a slight erythema (redness) with some swelling. Blistering may occur.
General Skin Care
Treated lesions will likely crust. Do not rub, scratch, or pick. Let it fall off on its own.
Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the treated area several times a day to keep area moist. Do not scrub the area, pat the area dry. Do not shave over the area if swelling, crusting or scabbing is present.
If persistent swelling, stinging or burning occurs, apply ice. Wrap the ice in a soft cloth. Discomfort may be relieved with Tylenol.
Avoid laying flat for 2 to 3 days and nights. This will help prevent or reduce swelling. Resting and sleeping in a recliner chair is preferred. If you do not have a recliner chair, prop your head and shoulders upright with many pillows.
To improve your healing time after treatments, oral supplementation with 500mg of vitamin C (in the form of ascorbic acid) one to two times daily is recommended.
