Laser Hair Removal

Pre-Treatment and Post-Treatment Instructions

Nearly everyone suffers from unwanted hair somewhere on their face or body.  Shaving and waxing can be irritating and only offer temporary solutions, but laser hair removal can give you long lasting results!

Our Cynosure laser emits gentle pulses of energy that destroy hair follicles, preventing them from producing hair again.  We can remove hair on any part of the body and on any skin color.  Most patients experience only minor discomfort which is often compared to the feeling of a rubber band snap.  Extreme cooling accompanies each pulse to offer maximum comfort, and topical anesthetic is also available.  Occasionally, patients may experience slight redness or puffiness which typically diminishes within 24 hours.

Most patients see results with just a few treatments.  During your consultation we will discuss factors which may affect your individual result.

FAQ

How many treatments will I need?

Hair grows in cycles, and only the hairs that are actively growing can be treated with the laser. As a result, it takes an average of 6 laser hair removal treatments to achieve the best result.

When will I see results?

After each laser hair removal treatment, it takes 2-3 weeks for the hairs to exfoliate/push out of the follicle. As the hairs are being exfoliated/pushed out, it often appears that they are growing.  This is not the case, and the hairs may be shaved or trimmed during the exfoliation process.

Can my blonde or gray hairs be treated?

Blonde, gray, white and strawberry blonde hair do not respond well or at all to laser hair removal treatment. The best candidates for laser hair removal have brown or black hairs. Any skin tone, however, may be treated.

Are the treatments uncomfortable?

Most patients experience discomfort which is often compared to the feeling of a rubber band snap.  Cool air accompanies each pulse to offer maximum comfort, and topical anesthetic (numbing cream) is also available.  Occasionally, patients may experience slight redness or puffiness which typically diminishes within 24 hours.

What special instructions do I need to follow?

Avoid sun exposure and no waxing/plucking 1 month prior to treatment. Shaving or trimming the hair is okay.
